Daftar Isi:
- Background: Low back pain is a complaint of acute or chronic pain near the lumbosacral region which can be caused by inflammation, degenerative, malignancy, gynecological abnormalities, trauma and metabolic disorders. Red topical ginger oil is a non-pharmacological choice that could relieve pain. The purpose of this study is to find out whether there is an effect of applying red topical ginger oil to decrease intensity of low back pain in convection workers. Method: Pre-experimental study used as method in this study (intact group comparison). Population of this study included 36 convection workers in Malang. The sample was determined using simple random sampling technique and Mann Whitney test use for data analysis. Results: The results of this study obtained an average pain scale before intervention in control group was 4.33 and the intervention group at 4.61. Whereas after intervention obtained the average in control group was 3.94 and the intervention group at 1.11. The Mann Whitney test showed that the p value in two groups after the intervention was p = 0,000 (<0.005) which means there was a decrease in the scale of low back pain in both groups. It is because in red topical ginger oil contains essential oils and oleoresin. The oleoresin itself, there is gingerol compounds which can inhibit cyclooxygenase so that the formation or biosynthesis of prostaglandins decreases, besides gingerol can provide a warm effect that could relieve muscle spasm, stiffness, and vasodilation of blood vessels so the flow of circulation to the lower back good. Conclusion: Based on the results of statistical tests it was concluded that H0 was rejected and H1 accepted.
