  • Hypertension or high blood pressure is a health problem with the highest prevalence and a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. One risk factor of hypertension is lifestyle changes, particulary is smoking. In 2030 the death rate of smokers in the worldwide will reach 10 million. The results of the survey that was conducted by researchers obtained that the population of around 578 people from Pandanwangi Village in Malang City had hypertension data from November 2018 to January 2019. This made Pandanwangi Village be a place with the highest incidence of hypertension in Malang City. This study used a correlational research design with cross-sectional method. The sample used was male smokers over 30 years who were in Pandanwangi Village of Malang City and had blood pressure above normal, study conducted in April 2019. The observed variables were smoking behavior and blood pressure of the respondents. Data analysis using Spearman Rank Correlation Test with a significant α = 0.05. The relationship between smoking behavior and the degree of hypertension obtained a significance value of 0,000, because the significance value is smaller from 0.050 (0,000 <0,050), so there is a relationship between smoking behavior and the degree of hypertension. (p = 0.000, α = 0.05). There is a relationship between smoking behavior and the degree of hypertension in Pandanwangi Village of Malang City.
