  • Background: When the body position is not ergonomic, continual degeneration of the upper trapezius muscle can result in adhesion, and a decrease in blood circulation that can lead to myofascial pain syndrome. Myofascial pain syndrome is a stretch or pressure pain due to adhesion to the fascia and muscles which is characterized by a trigger point, myofascial pain syndrome in the upper trapezius muscle can cause long-standing problems. Interventions that can be done to overcome the myofascial pain syndrome are contract relax and myofascial decompression. Research method: The design of the study was pre-experimental with the design of two group pretest-posttest designs to determine the differences in the effect of contract relax and myofascial pain syndrome on decreasing pain in Myofascial pain syndrome. The study population was 2016 Informatics Engineering students of UMM. Respondents were students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research instrument uses a VAS measuring device. Result: The normality test shows that the data is not normal. The results of the Wilcoxon test on contract relax and myofascial decompression interventions had the same results of 0,000. The results of the Mann-Whitney test are 0.034. Conclusion: The intervention of myofascial decompression is more influential in reducing the pain of myofascial pain syndrome in the upper trapezius muscle compared to contract relax.
