- Background: Candidiasis is mycosis with the highest incidence in an opportunistic infection that are acute sub-acute caused by Candida. The fungus is part of a normal microbial flora that adapts well to human hosts, especially the disgestive tract, urogenital tract, and skin. The researches show at least 60% isolate taken from the source of infection is C.albicans (Nasronudin dkk., 2006). Objective: This study intended to determine the secondary metabolites contained the ethyl acetate fraction of Eleutherine palmifolia tuber and obtain diameter of inhibition zone of ethyl acetate fraction of Eleutherine palmifolia tuber to the growth of C.albicans. Method: To find out the antifungal activity using the disc diffusion method. Ethyl acetate fraction of Eleutherine palmifolia tuber obtained using maceration method and on secondary metabolites was identified using KLT method. The test concentration test was 80 mg/ml, 120 mg/ml, and 160 mg/ml. Negative control used Tween 80 10% and pure water, positive control used Nystatin 50 μg/disk. The test solution and test control were placed on SDA medium which was smeared with fungal suspension and later incubated at temperature of 37oC for 24 hours. Results and Conlusions: Results of secondary metabolites identification using KLT method positive result on terpenoids, alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols, and anthraquinone. The results of antifungal activity of ethyl acetate fraction of Eleutherine palmifolia tuber to C.albicans provide inhibition zone. Therefore, it can be concluded that ethyl acetate fraction of Eleutherine palmifolia tuber has biological activity as an antifungal.
