  • Background: MRSA is type of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that are resistant to methicillin type antibiotics. In recent years, the incidence of MRSA bacterial infections have continued to increase and medical expenses are quite expensive. Date palm fruit extract is thought to contain flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids and tannins that work as antibacterial. Purpose: To prove the effect of Date Palm Fruit extract (Phoenix dactylifera) on the growth of MRSA in vitro. Research Methods: Experimental post-test only with control, using a dilution tube with Date Palm Fruit extract concentration of 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, 10%, 5% dan 0%. The result will determine MIC and MBC. Data were analyzed using Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney dan linier regression. Discuss and Results: Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) score was 80%. The results are obtained because the date palm extract contain flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids and tannins that work as antibacterial. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) can not be evaluated because the extract is not clear and cloudy. Kruskal wallis test showed that there was an effect on the growth of bacterial colonies (p = 0,005). Mann Whitney test showed significant differences between treatments. Linear regression test showed adjusted R square 65.1% that means date palm extract had been affect 65.1% to the growth of bacterial. Conclusion: Dates Palm Fruit extract (Phoenix dactylifera) has an influence on the growth of MRSA in vitro. Keyword: Date Palm Fruit extract, MRSA, MIC
