  • This study aims to find out what kind of communication is done between parents and children during the study process at the pesantren. The role of parents is very important in the process of children's education. Most children do not want to continue their studies at the pesantren, so the involvement of parents in the voting process and the continuation of their studies at the pesantren are very influential. In this study, researchers chose parents and children as subjects. To find out the communication between parents and children in the study process at the pesantren, researchers used data analysis which included 3 stages namely analyzing the data, reducing the data and compiling the reduction data. Researchers used the type of descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The results showed that before entering the pesantren, the intensity of openness of parents in communicating with children was very frequent, with a form of dyadic coalition. After entering the pesantren, the child expresses his complaint to the parents, but the parents support the child to continue his studies at the pesantren by motivating and advising him. Before entering the pesantren, a complementary relationship communication model was also found with the one-up / one-down pattern, whereas after entering the pesantren, a symmetrical relationship communication model with a one-up / one-up pattern was found.
