  • Geranium essential oil (Pelargonium graveolens) has been studied to have antibacterial activity. Geranium essential oil containing the main constituent that has an antibacterial effect is citronellol (26.7%). Peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita) which has also been studied has antibacterial activity with the main constituents namely menthol (29-48%). Essential oils have an antibacterial effect with a mechanism that damages the bacterial cell wall and inhibits the activity of bacterialenzyme (a bacteria-forming enzyme). The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial effect of increasing levels of geranium essential oil (F1 1.25%; F2 2.5%; and F3 5%) combined with peppermint essential oil in a preparation of hand sanitizer spray gel against S. aureus. The formulation in this study was replicated 3 times. The research method used is experimental, which compares the increase in variation in levels of geranium essential oil which determines the increase in antibacterial activity against the Staphylococcus aureus. The antibacterial activity test method used is the paper disk diffusion method. The data then analyzed by the One Way Anova and HSD statistical methods with a confidence level of 95%. The antibacterial test results of spray gel hand sanitizer preparations were the diameter of the bacterial inhibition zone in F1 (6,42 mm±0,54), F2 (9,27 mm±0.55), and F3 (10,90 mm±0,65) The results showed that the higher levels of geranium essential oil (1.25%; 2.5%; and 5%) on the hand sanitizer spray gel produced a good inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus. The higher levels of geranium essential oil on hand sanitizer spray gel produces a good inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus.
