Pembimbing II: Widiya Yulianti, S.Sos, M.A. Keywords: Reality Construction, News Construction, Asian Games, Online Media This research is motivated by the 2018 Asian Games event, and Indonesia was chosen to be the host. So that it becomes a high news value to be reported, especially on foreign media. In this case, the construction of the reality of the two media in reporting on the 2018 Asian Games. With the construction of reality, it can be seen how the media construct reality into a news story. This study examines two online media namely the New York Times and Asia Channel News in constructing reality into a news story. In this study, researchers used the theory of influence hierarchy. The hierarchical theory of influence explains that there are factors that influence the construction of the media into a news story. In this theory also explained the intra and extra media factors involved in influencing the media in shaping the construction of the reality of a new. The research method used is an interpretive qualitative type, with a qualitative approach. Data obtained through news text analysis and documentation. The process of data collection is done by analyzing news texts using the framing theory of Pan and Kosicki. The data analysis technique uses Pan and Kosicki analysis which has four elements, namely syntax, script, thematic and rhetorical. The results of the analysis gave rise to differences from the two media namely the New York Times and Channel News Asia, the New York Times tended to emphasize the issue of issues that existed in Indonesia during the 2018 Asian Games, with emphasis on words and themes constructed. While Channel News Asia takes a more positive perspective on the 2018 Asian Games news. In addition, there are differences in syntax, script, thematic and rhetorical elements, which make the two media have very clear differences in terms of how to construct an event in the news that contains about the 2018 Asian Games multi-event event.
