  • Background: Salmonella typhi is a gram-negative bacteria that causes typhoid fever. The treatment for Salmonella typhi infection is difficult because this bacteria is resistant to some types of antibiotics. The Roselle’s petal extract (Hibiscus sabdariffa L) is known to have antimicrobial effect towards Salmonella typhi because they contain tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and flavonoids. Objective: To find out the antimicrobial inhibition difference between Roselle’s petal extract (Hibiscus sabdariffa L), Chloramphenicol and Ciprofloxacin toward the growth of Salmonella typhi. Result and discussion: The inhibition zone of Ciprofloxacin is 28,9 mm, Roselle's petal extract is 25,9 mm and Chloramphenicol is 24,6 mm. One Way ANOVA test shows the significance of 0,000 (p<0,05) which means there is a significant difference between Roselle's petal extract, Ciprofloxacin, and Chloramphenicol's inhibition zone toward the growth of Salmonella typhi. The Pos Hoc Bonferroni test between Roselle’s petal extract and Ciprofloxacin; Cipofloxacin and Chloramphenicol shows a significant result with the significance of 0,000 while for the Roselle’s petal extract and Chloramphenicol shows a significance of 0,050 (p < 0,05). It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in each group. Keywords: Roselle's extract, Salmonella typhi, inhibition zone. *)Microbiology Lecturer in Medical Faculty of Muhammadiyah Malang University **)Pediatric Lecturer in Medical Faculty of Muhammadiyah Malang University
