  • Background: Chrysomya megacephala is one of the mechanical vector of pathogenic microorganism, including Trombiculid that transmit scrub typhus caused by Rickettsia tsutsugamushi and also can cause trombiculosis. Temporary waste disposal in market is one of the Chrysomya megacephala’s habitat. Purpose: To prove the difference between the amount of Trombiculid on the body surface of Chrysomya megacephala at Gadang and Mergan market in Malang. Method: Observational analitic with cross sectional approach. Chrysomya megacephala were caught by fly net with 30 swings at those two markets then put into plastic bag filled with alcohol swab 96%. Chrysomya megacephala were identified then washed with a drop of liquid soap and 5cc 70% alcohol, mixed for 1 minute using vortex, centrifuged with 1500 rpm for 7 minutes. Examined the sediment by direct smear and flotation method. Data were analysed by Independent T-test. Result and Discussion: There were 114 Chrysomya megacephala caught at Gadang market and 494 were caught at Mergan market. More flies were caught at Mergan market caused by more rotten meat and fish. There were 20 Trombiculid found on the body surface of Chrysomya megacephala at Gadang market, but no Trombiculid found on body surface of Chrysomya megacephala at Mergan market because Gadang Market was near the grass fields. There was no significant difference between the amount of Trombiculid at two markets. Conclusion: There was no significant difference between the amount of Trombiculid on the body surface of Chrysomya megacephala at Gadang and Mergan market in Malang.
