  • Level and flow control system of liquid between tanks in coupled tanks has an important role in a chemical industry process to improve efficiency and process optimization. Therefore, a controller with reliability is needed to overcome nonlinearity that often occurs in coupled tanks. SMC is a regulatory methodology that is able to overcome nonlinearity problems in the system because it is a robust controller. SMC works by repairing the error signal by directing the signal to the desired track and then maintaining it, so that it can maintain the performance of the plant. From the double tank system testing that has been carried out using SMC with the height level to be achieved on tank 2 of 55mm, it was found that the system response performance was better when compared to previous studies using conventional PID, namely rise time for 3.9 seconds, settling time for 51.4 seconds and overshoot of 0.21%. SMC also has a more stable performance even though there is a disruption to the system.
