  • Parents who have children with special needs, such as mental retardation, are certainly required to always provide all the facilities needed by children and not a few of them will experience problems in childcare. Moreover, these problems, parents can not handle it properly, so that it will result in stress as a physical and psychological reaction in these demands. This is called stress parenting. The purpose of this study want to know the relationship of each aspect of parenting style (authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive). The subjects of this study were 80 mothers who had mental retardation children. The sampling technique in this study is quota sampling. The data collection tool is in the form of parenting style scales and maternal parenting stress scales that have children with mental retardation. Test analysis using product moment Pearson with multiple correlation test. The results showed that the authoritative aspects and parenting stress t = -3,635, p = 0.001, meaning that there is a significant negative 2 relationship between parenting style and parenting stress. Furthermore, the results of the authoritarian aspect with parenting stress are t = 2,604, p = 0.011, meaning that there is a positive relationship between authoritarian aspects and parenting stress. Then the permissive aspects of parenting stress showed that t = 0.448, p = 0.655, meaning that there was a significant relationship between permissive aspects and parenting stress.
