  • The aim of this research is to investigate whether or not the storytelling technique can improve the students’ speaking skill at the Eleventh Grade of SMA Negeri 1 Larantuka. This research was conducted quantitavely through experimental research design. Cluster sampling technique was used to determine which was the experimental and control group. The researcher took Class XI Bahasa 2 consisting of 30 students as a experimental group and Class XI Bahasa 1 consisting of 30 students as a control group. The isntrument used to collected the data was a storytelling test. The test was used to know that the students’ speaking skill through storytelling about narrative text. In addition, to analyze the data, the reseacher used paired sample t-test statistic in SPSS (Statistical Program for School Science) 21 version. Based on the result of paired sample t-test analysis showed the significance difference between pre-test and post-test both of the experimental and control group. The mean of experimental group was higher than the control group. It was proven by the mean score of experimental group was 80.67 while the control group was 70.00. It means that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. Therefore, H1 stated that the storytelling technique can improve the students’ speaking skill. As the result, this technique is proven effective to improve students’ speaking skill.
