- The purposes of this research were to describe kinds of technique in teaching English vocabulary used by the English teacher, and to explain how the teacher applied those techniques. Teaching techniques are commonly used by English teacher in teaching learning process. The teacher used teaching techniques in order to build the effective process of teaching and learning activity. Meanwhile, SD Muhammadiyah 3 Assalam Malang was the new elementary school in Malang city, which was built on 2016. This school was quite interesting as the object of research because the teacher of English has not had any English education background and just a few research was conducted at that schools. In this descriptive qualitative research design, the researcher limited it to the teaching techniques used by English teacher and how the teacher used those techniques in the first grade at SD Muhammadiyah 3 Assalam malang. The subject of this study was one of the English teachers at SD Muhammadiyah 3 Assalam Malang. Therefore, in collecting the data, the researcher used three kinds of instruments. They were observation checklist, interview guide and document. The result of this study showed that the teacher used seven techniques they were: 1). Visual technique, 2). Mime and Gesture technique, 3). Example of the Type Technique, 4). Translation Technique, 5). Asking Other Technique, 6). Using Dictionary Technique, and 7). Contextual Guesswork as the teaching techniques used in teaching English. Those techniques are used by teacher in various way, related to the topic and condition of the class.
