  • Material handling process is the main activity carried out at PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia III where the company is engaged in the port service. In fact, the condition of the material handling process that occurs in the warehousing department at Terminal Peti Kemas is considered less effective. This is caused by the use of forklifts that are considered less appropriate, in the process porters move material in the form of cargo bag from the stack to the pallet, then the material is transported using a forklift to the truck to be brought to the unloading area of the ship deck. In this condition, there are some shortcomings, the time wasted idle time of porters, cost of pallet and overtime costs if the company uses the same workers over a work shift in a single day. Therefore we need an alternative tool that aims to improve the loading and unloading capacity of the company. This tool is a belt conveyor that will be used to move cargo bag from the stack into the truck without having to do a preparation to the pallet. The design of the belt conveyor is constituted by a user perspective and the calculation capacity of the belt conveyor, with this design process undertaken becoming shorter and loading-unloading capacity increased by 87,5% from a capacity of 80 tph to 150 tph.
