- Aluminum (Al) is light metal with corrosion resistance characteristic. It also robust, and has capability to be forged. Moreover, aluminum is good electric conductor. It is mostly used for households, aircraft material, automotive, ship, constructions and so forth. In increasing mechanical strength, aluminum is combined with Cu, Si, Mg, Zn, Mn, Ni, and other elements. Silicon (Latin: silicium) is chemical element with Si symbol and 14 atom number, which it is the second abundant element after oxygen in the earth. It is almost 25.7%. Chemical element was found by Jons Jakob Berzelius. This research focused on finding out the influence of using silicon variation toward mechanical characteristic on aluminum compound. Aluminum is combined with variation of 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30 %Si. Testing was conducted with strength (Vickers method), impact, and microstructure tests. The highest and the lowest strength test are respectively on Al-15 % Si compound that has 0,180 J/mm2 value and Al- 30 % Si compound with 0,167 J/mm2. The highest and the lowest hardness are respectively on Al- 30 % Si that has 117,372 VHN value and Al-15 % Si with 86,493 VHN.
