- The process of adaptation in intercultural communication is the process by which an individual enters a new environment with different cultural backgrounds with the culture of origin. This study aims to determine how these processes through experience and effort conducted by students from Madura in Ar-Rahmah 2 in the district of Dau, Malang, East Java. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach with descriptive research type. The study was conducted in Pesantren Ar-Rahmah Men 2 in 2018-2019. The subjects were students who come from Madura using purposive sampling with an active status categories and in a learning period in Ar-Rahmah 2 at least one year and has been active in participating in extracurricular activities. Collecting data using the techniques of interview, observation and documentation. Then analyzed using an interactive model of Miles & Huberman. The validity of this research data using triangulation techniques. The results and conclusions of this study found that there are several factors that make students Madurese never felt pressure in his new environment in adapting. The pressure is felt due to the difficulty in interacting with other students-students of different cultures, Homesick, language differences, and feel shunned by other students. It takes self-awareness to open viewpoints and receive a new culture that is facing in order to adapt to the new environment as soon as possible. The more pressure acquired Madura students, then more difficulties experienced by them when to adapt.
