- A critical thing in discussing the phenomenon “the meaning of cafe for urban society" cafe is a place for hanging out, a place of entertainment, a pleasant place to enjoy a dish that is already in a message. Cafe has many facilities such as Wi-Fi, posters, ground, and live music. Customer who comes from out of town or community's so-called "urban " with the purpose of study they made cafe is one of those places to entertain ourself, group work, socializing and interacting with each other. The researcher reveals the meaning of cafe for urban society. The results of the study indicate that there is a meaning of Coklat Classic Cafe in Dieng Malang, first as an identity of people in the city, second as a place for free, third as the existence of the self, fourth as a place of happiness, fifth as socializing, sixth as a place to study. From the meanings of urban society interpret the cafe as a place that is productive, comfortable, enjoy. This study applies the theory of George Herbert Mead. Methods in this study using a qualitative approach to the kind of Phenomenology. The data obtained through the interview process in depth to the classic chocolate and six managers customer selected by the method of purposive sampling. Facilities within the cafe within the meaning of the symbols that influence social objects are used to represent (or replacing) any view can make a meaning to its interest in their visit. Customer notice that the purpose is a cultural symbol can replace or is meant as a basis for follow up.
