  • Sembung rambat (Mikania micrantha) is a type of weed that is difficult to be controlled. In Indonesia Mikania micrntha is still rarely used. Mikania micrantha leaves have the potential as an antibacterial because they contain active compounds of flavonoids, tannins and terpenoids which can damage bacterial cell walls and membranes. The purpose of study was to analyze the effect of various concentrations of Mikania micranta leaves extract on the colonies number of Streptococcus mutans bacteria and also discovering the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of Mikania micranta leaves extract toward the Streptococcus mutans bacteria using liquid dilution method. This experimental research design was The Posttest-Only Control Group in which the layout employed was RAL. The Samples used consisted of five treatment groups of Mikania micrantha leaves extract with concentrations of 6.25%; 12.5%; 25%; 50% and 0% control, in which each treatment was reapeated for four times. The sampling was concuted by using simple random sampling. The samples of this research were Streptococcus mutans bacteria that had been cultured in a BHIB media. The data gained were analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis and Man Whitney test. The results of this research indicated that there was significant effect of Mikania micrantha leaves extract toward the colonies number of Streptococcus mutans. The MIC was in the concentration of 12,5 % and the MBC was in the concentration of 50%. The research results can be used as biology learning sources for archaebacteria and eubacteria materials in the biology subject of 10th grade of Senior High School.
