HUBUNGAN BERAT TAS PUNGGUNG DENGAN KELUHAN NYERI PUNGGUNG BAWAH (LOW BACK PAIN) PADA MURID KELAS 4-6 DI SD MUHAMMADIYAH 9 MALANG

- Background: The development of back pain in children continued to be a concern because it increased the risk of chronic back pain as adults. One of the contributing factors of low back pain was excessive and repetitive lifting, and was often found in students. Elementary school of Muhammadiyah 9 Malang is a school that implements full-day school where would be more items on backpack, adjusting to more subjects, compared to schools that didn't implement full-day school. Objective: Determine the correlation of backpack weight and complaints of low back pain in students of grades 4-6 in Elementary School of Muhammadiyah 9 Malang. Research Method: Analytical research with cross sectional design. Sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data analysis applied Chi-square test. Results and Discussion: From 121 students, 81(66.9%) students carried heavy backpacks and 40(33.1%) students carried light backpacks. Then for the number of low back pain were 71(58.7%) students with light backpack categories were 15(12.4%) students and heavy backpack categories were 56(46.3%) students. The result of Chi-Square analysis showed(p=0.001) that the backpack's weight was one of the factors causing low back pain in students with age of 10-12 years. The Odds Ratio result was 4,216, meaning the chance for students carrying backpacks ≥10% of body weight to suffer from lower back pain was 4 times the chance for students carrying backpacks <10% body weight. Conclusion: There was correlation of backpack weight and complaints of low back pain in students in grade 4-6 of Elementary School of Muhammadiyah 9 Malang.
