  • This study aims to describe mathematical problem solving based on metacognitive subject matter relations and functions. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. This research was conducted in October 2018. There are 4 stages studied, namely: understanding the problem, planning a solution, implementing the plan, checking again. The subjects of this study were eighth SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Dau Malang Middle School consisting of 26 students with 6 students 2 subjects representing criteria of high, medium, and low. Data collection techniques are the results of answers and interviews. The results of the study show aspects of understanding the problems for subjects 1,2,3, 4, and 5 are correct, for subjects 6 are still lacking. In the aspect of planning completion for Subjects 1, 2, 3 and 4 have made the right plan. Subject 5 for question number 1 does not make a plan directly write down the completion, number 2 subject 5 makes the completion plan incomplete. Subject 6 in numbers 1 and 2 makes a correct completion plan but does not make an aspect of understanding the problem and the aspect of checking again. The third aspect is Subjects 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 have implemented the settlement plan correctly. Subject 6 does not write the right conclusions. The fourth aspect is to re-examine where Subjects 1 and 2 have checked again. Subjects 3, 4, 5, and 6 do not do a re-examination so the answers are incomplete.
