- Tobacco is one of export commodities that Indonesia is pretty much bring in foreign exchange for the country. Cigar tobacco Indonesia most European countries is that in the sales system through an auction in Bremen, Germany. The role of the tobacco people are seen is very important in the field of social, economic, and trade. Indonesia is one of the producers of tobacco while consumer products processed tobacco (smoking) in the world. Production of tobacco, Indonesia was ranked the fifth largest world with a total production of 167 thousand tons of tobacco leaves in 2015. The purpose of this study is to describe the strategy that carried out farmers and obstacles in maintaining the well-being of the family. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. Use unstructured interview techniques, observation and documentation as a method of research. Results of the study in the village of Triwungan sub-district of Kotaanyar Regency of Probolinggo, strategies undertaken by farmers is quite varied, ranging from saving to use crops to build houses (consumerist and productive). In the Division of labor more dominated by family members of men ranging from planting until harvest. The constraints experienced by farmers i.e. tobacco marred pests and erratic weather could degrade the quality of the tobacco. The determination of the price of the plant is also not stable, each year certainly different, sometimes even very low height. Farmers should have to understand economics to organize results from his farm in order to reduce the risk of loss in farming.
