- People convey their ideas, feeling and emotion through the literary work or commonly called literature. Some products of literatures are: novel, short story, prose, drama and poetry. Poetry is one of literary work, poetry can be devided into three categories, they are: narrative, descriptive and lyric poetry. Song has close relationship with lyric poem. The lyric of songs refers to original poetry and lyrical poetry is usually to be sung. Many of lyric poems in a song use a various language such as idiomatic expressions. This study aims to analyse the idiomatic expressions in the lyric of RAGE AGAINTS THE MACHINE songs. This study uses descriptive design. The research is directed toward determining the nature of a situation, as it exists at the time of study. “What exist” in this study is the idiomatic expressions. The data of this study were taken from the lyric of songs. The population of this study is the lyric of RAGE AGAINTS THE MACHINE songs, which are presented in the album “RAGE AGAINTS THE MACHINE”. The album contains 10 songs and systematically as the sample, which reached by simple random sampling, out 7 songs. The result of the study shows, there are many idiomatic expression founded in the lyric of songs. There are 4 types of phrases founded in the lyric of songs: Verb phrase, Noun phrase, Adjective phrase and Adverbial phrase.
