- The employees are those who run various activities in a company. They are expected to always positively contribute to the achievement of the company’s vision and mission. On the other hand, the counterproductive work behavior of the employees can cause a great loss for the company. There are several factors affecting the behavior. One of them is the low self-esteem (high contingent self-esteem) of the employees. This study aimed to figure out the effect of contingent self-esteem towards the counterproductive work behavior among employees. The subjects were 363 employees in the production division of PT Aneka Tuna Indonesia. This is a quantitative study with data collection method using the contingent self-esteem scale and the counterproductive work behavior scale. The results showed that there was positive correlation between the contingent self-esteem and the counterproductive work behavior (r=0,041 and p=0,446 (>0.05). However, the correlation between both variables was not significant. Thus, the hypothesis in this study is not accepted.
