  • Dating violence is one of the most prevalent forms of violence that occurs in women including physical, sexual, emotional abuse and control of behavior by partners. If the victims experience rumination where individuals cannot stop thinking about the mistakes or painful incidents, there is a possibility for the individuals to hardly forgive a partner who has hurt them. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of rumination on forgiveness in early adults who were the victims of a dating violence. This study employed a accidental sampling technique. The criteria of the research subjects were women aged 20-40 years who had experienced a physical or verbal violence which was carried out by their partners as many as 619 subjects. The instrument in this study utilized a scale of RRS and TRIM-18. Simple linear regression test analysis was utilized for the purpose of data analysis. The results showed that there was a rumination effect on forgiveness in the early adult victims of dating violence. The regression coefficient (r) was 0.269 with a value of p = 0,000 <0.05. This reveales that the higher the attitude of contemplating others’ failures or mistakes, the higher the forgiveness attitude of the person who has been hurt. The influence of rumination on forgiveness in early adults who were the victims of dating violence was 7.2%.
