- The background of the author takes this title because in general children with parents and are closely related or often communicate face to face because they live in one house. But it is different with parents and children who do not live at home or live far apart because of differences in distance and place. communication is carried out using media such as the telephone does not communicate face to face. This long distance communication raises a problem that is intertwined communication becomes effective or ineffective because lack of communication between parents and children creates emotional relationships that are not interwoven well and closeness decreases due to tenuous relationships due to lack of communication. This study uses the theory of two-way communication (two way flow of communication) Lazarsfeld model in 1944. Then developed by Elihu Katz in 1955, where the theory aims to find out how the process of long-distance communication that occurs between parents and children, giving rise to ineffective communication due to network problems, packages, and busyness of each research subject, so that researchers are interested in doing the research. This study aims to determine how the process of long-distance communication between parents and children. The research method used was qualitative with the selection of purposive sampling research subjects by taking 10 research subjects (key informants) and 10 research subjects of parents (supporters). With data collection techniques used through in-depth interviews, namely data collected through in-depth interviews on each subject of research. The researcher collected data by conducting in-depth interviews using interview guides so that the interview remained in the focus of the research and the data obtained were analyzed through three channels, namely; data reduction (selection process, focusing, simplification, interview results), data presentation and drawing conclusions, data analysis techniques using the Miles and Huberman models, by testing the validity of the data using data source triggers and checking the validity of the data. The results of this study can be concluded that the communication process between research subjects of students with research subjects of parents and vice versa the process of communication between parents research subjects with child research subjects so many different characteristics and characteristics of research subjects that make the data from research there are different and there are also the same and there are also obstacles that affect the communication process such as; communication network barriers. These obstacles that affect communication do not go well. The communication process between students 'research subjects and their parents' research subjects or vice versa has an impact on the relationship between students 'research subjects and parents' research subjects become tight or tenuous.
