- This research aimed to present the background knowledge of task-based language teaching (TBLT) as an alternatively new approach of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). In TBLT, the teacher focused on the performance of a set of prepared tasks. The research started from explaining the definition of TBLT and the word ‘task’ itself which become confusion among the users. Then, the research discussed the use of TBLT within a speaking class which started from defining the word ‘speaking’ and examined kinds of teaching approaches in speaking class. As the research employed qualitative descriptive research, the researcher analyzed the used tasks in the class, interpreted the tasks and analyzed it whether those implemented tasks were appropriate Task-Based Language Teaching’s tasks according to the explained theories. The results showed a set of prepared tasks inside the class which used by the lecturer. A number of tasks was found during the class’ activities which left to the researcher to find out whether the tasks are appropriate TBLT tasks or not. In conclusion, this research analyzed the data and clarified the used tasks in the class and delivered the results and suggestions towards the study.
