  • Studies on leachate are still limited, especially the identification of bacteria in leachate. Some previous researches carried out were the identification of bacteria in waste and examining leachate chemical content. This study aimed to determine the characteristics and types of bacteria found in leachate. Leachate samples were taken from TPST 3R Mulyoagung Bersatu, Dau District, Malang Regency. The identification of bacteria used several tests, i.e. bacterial morphology test, bacterial physiology test, and biochemical test. Morphological test and physiological test of bacteria were carried out at the Biology Laboratory of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang and biochemical tests were carried out at the Microbiology Laboratory of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Airlangga University, Surabaya. The results showed that there were 5 pathogenic bacterial species in leachate at TPST 3R Mulyoagung Brsatu, Dau District, Malang Regency, namely Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Vibrio parahaemolitycus, Vibrio alginalitycus, and Yersinia enterocolitica. This findings are expected to be the initial information in determining leachate handling policies.
