  • The learning process that usually uses lecture and question and answer methods make the student getting saturated easily. Therefore, a new method is needed in order to get over student’s saturation, and one of the methods is by implementing ice breaking method. The aims of this study were : (1) to describe the implementing of ice breaking in the class learning process for Third Grade student at SDN Giripurno 02 Batu, (2) to describe the enhancement of effectiveness in the class learning process for Third Grade student at SDN Giripurno 02 Batu. This research used Classroom Action Research (PTK) with a qualitative and quantitative approach. It conducted in Third Grade student at SDN Giripurno 02 Batu with total of 24 students. Data collection techniques employed was an interview, observation techniques, and documentation. Data analysis utilized was data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the implementation of ice breaking can improve the effectiveness of student learning. The enhancement of effectiveness in student learning processes can be seen by observing 5 aspects, namely (1) Attention to the material, (2) Activity, (3) Cooperation, (4) Discipline, (5) Responsibility. Based on observations, the effectiveness of student learning processes experienced an increase from the first cycle of 67.9% and increased to 83% in the second cycle. This improvement shows that the implementation of ice breaking can increase the effectiveness of student learning.
