- Every student who wants to complete his studies must be required to complete his final assignment as one of the requirements to get a Bachelor degree. However, in the process many students make delays in completing the thesis, making the study time longer. The deliberate and repeated signing of the assignment is called academic procrastination. One reason for the occurrence of academic procrastination is because of avoidance as coping by students to avoid theses which are considered unpleasant and pressing. This avoidance is called avoidance coping. This study aims to determine the relationship between avoidance coping with academic procrastination on students. The subjects in this study amounted to 85 Psychology students at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, the year 2012, 2013, and 2014, who were taking thesis tahun 1 year. This study uses a quantitative approach with purposive sampling technique. Academic procrastination is measured by using a modified adaptation scale from Tuckman's Procrastination Scale (TPS) and 8 avoidance coping variables using a modified adaptation scale of the Cognitive-behavioral Avoidance Scale (CBAS). Data analysis using product moment. The results showed that there was a very significant positive relationship between avoidance coping with procrastination in students with a coefficient of r = 0.709, with a significance of p = 0.000 <0.01. There is an effective contribution given by avoidance coping to academic procrastination by 50%.
