  • Background : Fruit of Limonia acidissima L. containing alkaloid, terpenoid, saponin and flavonoid are known to have antibacterial activity. Aim : This study aims to determine the antibacterial effect of n-hexan fraction of the fruit L. acidissima on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus in vitro. Method : The method used is a disc difussion method. The sample use in this study were pure cultures of S. aureus. AntibacterialS. aureus test with using did from n-hexan fraction fruit of L.acidissima for the concentration of 30 mg/ml, 50 mg/ml, 100 mg/ml and chloramphenicol 30 μg as positive control, DMSO 1% as a negative control. Result and Conclusions : N-hexan fraction of the fruit L. acidissima have antibacterialeffect on the growth of S. aureus. The results show that the n-hexan fraction of 30 mg/ml – 100 mg/ml less active than the positive control. but it still can be said as a poten antibacterial against S. aureus. The fraction of n-hexan L acidissima fruit toward the growth of S. aureus by difusion drag zone diameter produces 30 mg/ml of 9.33±0,03 mm, 50 mg/ml of 12.28±0,26 mm and 100 mg/ml of 14.63±0,23 mm.The results of this study it was concluded that the smallest concentration at 30 mg/ml has given the diameter of the zones of drag against the growth of bacteria S. aureus.
