- The development of science and environment always progress every day. This situation makes people move to another country for some reasons such as studying, living, and working. People will get strange and unfamiliar feelings when they come to a new country which has different culture. This situation is called culture shock. This study focuses on culture shock faced by foreign students of BIPA in University of Brawijaya with two purposes: (1) to know the culture shocks faced by foreign students of BIPA in University of Brawijaya, (2) to know the way of foreign students of BIPA in University of Brawijaya solve their problem dealing with culture shock. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative method, while the data displayed in the forms of descriptive. It is expected to get the data about culture shock faced by foreign students and how they solve their problem dealt with culture shock. The subjects of this study were eleven foreign students of BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia Untuk Penutur Asing) in 2017/2018 academic year in University of Brawijaya. The researcher used the open-ended questionnaire and interview as the instruments for collecting the data. The findings revealed that there were two problems on culture shock faced by foreign students of BIPA in University of Brawijaya. The problems were: (1) the problems related to the cultural difference were language, social manner and religious life, (2) the problems related to life change were weather, food, transportation, emotion and life style. Meanwhile, the foreign students’ ways to solve these problems dealt with culture shock were: (1) foreign students made personal contact with the host culture, (2) foreign students accepted the cultural difference between their culture and the host culture.
