- Code switching is known as the phenomenon of switching from one language to another in the same discourse. In this case, English is a popular language to communication in the world. As an international language, English is important for our life and necessary for education. In Bahasa Indonesia and Literature at UMM during ESP class the lecturers used code switching while teaching learning process. This study attempted to raise another case in code switching used by a lecturers especially in Bahasa Indonesia and Literature. The ESP lecturerswas the subject of this study. The purposes of this study were to identify the types and investigate the factors of code switching used by ESP lecturers of Bahasa Indonesia and Literature. This study was qualitative. The data were collected in the form of recordingand interview transcripts. The result of this study revealed two types of code switching used by ESP lecturers while teaching and learning process.There were intra-sentential that most occured, then followed byinter-sentential was rarely found in this study. Moreover, the existence of code switching used was influenced by several factors such asthe students did not really understand English well, the students do not have same ability with the lecturer about comprehending in English and the students having lack of vocabulary.
