  • Background : The use of medicinal plants as alternative medicines is increasingly catching public’s interest. Sambiloto is indicated to be effective as an lowering blood glucose. Moreover, to improve the quality of sambiloto herbal products, then made tablets from sambiloto extract of standardized. Objective : To determine the effect of the level of gelatin 1%, 2%, and 3% of the sambiloto extract tablets on physical quality and optimal concentrations of gelatin which meet pharmaceutical requirements. Method : sambiloto extract was made by utilizing ultrasonic maceration method with ethanol 96% as the solvent. The tablets were made using wet granulation method with gelatin concentrations of 1%, 2% and 3% as the binding agent. The evaluation on the physical quality of tablets covered the hardness, friability, and disintegration time. The data then were analyzed statistically. Result and conclusion : The results showed that there was an increase in the concentrations of 1%, 2% and 3% gelatin in the sambiloto extract tablets which could give a significant difference to the hardness and disintegration of tablets, while the friability of the tablets at concentrations of 2% and 3%. Formula with concentration 1% is the selected formula in the sambiloto extract tablet formula.
