- A social interaction with peers is an important thing among teenagers. However, there is a thought that facing a social condition is scary thing due to the presence of negative evaluation from other people which leads to social anxiety. The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of fear of negative evaluation towards social anxiety among teenagers. This study applies correlational design using simple random sampling. The subjects involved are 518 aged from 14 to 18 years. This study also employs a scale of Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Straightforward and Social Phobia Inventory. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression analysis. The results of the study showed that there is an effect of fear of negative evaluation (FNE) on social anxiety among teenagers. The value of regression coefficient (r) is 0.877 with p = 0.000 < 0.05. This result indicated that the more fear given by people is, the higher anxiety felt by the teenagers when facing social anxiety. The influence of fear of negative evaluation towards social anxiety among teenagers is about 32.8%.
