- Background: Nutritional problems are a public health problem, where in the first two years of a child's life is a critical period. Nutrition in that period can be permanent and cannot recover even though future nutritional needs are met. The current phenomenon is related to the behavior of children who often consume snacks that can cause changes in children's nutritional status. Moral and eating behavior will result in the poor nutritional status in children. Method: This research is descriptive research. This research was conducted in November 2018 at the Kampak Health Center in Trenggalek Regency. Sampling using total sampling technique, the number of samples are 103 children with poor nutrition and under nutrition. Data analysis using descriptive analysis. Results: The results of the study showed that the factors of toddler were mostly girl, namely 55 people (53.4%), the age factor of toddlers was the most toddlers and toddlers with a 1-5 year age range of 96 people (92.3%), maternal age factor when giving birth on average 20-35 years old as many as 56 people (54.3%), birth interval factors obtained the distance between before and after that is <2 years old as many as 88 people (85.43%), income factors are in the category low with income of <Rp 1,500,000 as many as 96 people (93.2%), the factor of marital status with an intact marital status of 97 people or 94.17%, the factor of maternal knowledge is in the moderate category which is 46 people (44.7%) , and maternal perception factor is high perception with the number of 43 people (41.7%). Conclusion: The factors underlying the incidence of under-five malnutrition include factors such as the toddler gender, age, maternal age at delivery, birth interval factors, income factors, parents marital status factors, maternal knowledge factors, and maternal perception factors.
