PENGARUH METODE MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING TERHADAP PENINGKATAN PENGETAHUAN DAN KEPATUHAN DIET RENDAH PURIN PADA PENDERITA GOUT DI WILAYAH KERJA PUSKESMAS ARJUNO

- Introduction : A low purine diet is a non-pharmacological treatment on gout sufferers. Not all people with gout know and comply with low purine diet, which causes the uric acid level in the blood to increase. One of health education types that can be given to improve one's knowledge and obediance is motivational interviewing method, which is a counseling method that aims to encourage someone to change their behavior by providing information about health and motivating them to change previous bad habits. Method : This study applied a quasi experimental method with a pre-post test one group design. The samples were taken from 30 gout patients at the Arjuno Health Center work area, Malang City. The variables observed were Motivational Interviewing method, knowledge enhancement and aompliance to low purine diet. The data were analyzed by using Wilcoxon with α = 0.05 significant value. Result : The results show that at the pretest, majority in the intervention group which amounted 23 people were at the low level of knowledge while 7 people were at sufficient level of knowledge and all respondents experienced a non compliance of low purine diet. After the posttest, the level of knowledge in the intervention group has increased; 8 are people are classified at the good level and 22 people are classified at the sufficient level, and 26 people comply with the low purine diet. However, 4 of them still experience a non compliance of low purine diet. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of motivational interviewing on knowledge enhancement. (p = 0.00, α = 0.05) and compliance to low purine diet on gout patients. (p = 0.00, α = 0.05). Discussion :The motivational interviewing method giving influence to the increase of knowledge by providing health education, motivation and encouragement to change previous unhealthy behaviors in order to be better for someone.
