- This research entitled "Metaphor in the Language of Football Comments by Valentino Simanjutak" was motivated by the phenomenon of the use of metaphors that were commented on by football sports commentators. In addition to being used as a communication tool, metaphors are used by football commentators with the aim of creating attractiveness in speaking and strengthening the meaning that is to be conveyed. This study aims to describe the form, meaning, and function of metaphors in the language of football commentary. The method used is analytic description. Data retrieval is done by transcribing data from video soccer matches commented on by Valentino Simanjutak. The data obtained is the commentary of commentator Valentino Simanjutak which contains elements of metaphor. The data source in this study is a video of a soccer match which was commented on by Valentino Simanjutak on Youtube in 2018. The results of this study are obtained, namely the form of metaphor is divided into six, among others, being (cosmos), cosmos (substance), substance (object), object (objective), animate (animate), and human (human). The meaning of metaphor is four categories: anthropomorphic metaphor (animal metaphor), animal metaphor, metaphor from concrete to abstract, and synesthesia metaphor (synesthetic metaphor). The function of the metaphor consists of functions of beautifying sounds and narrative, concretizing, describing images, giving emphasis on speech and emotions, arousing certain impressions and atmosphere, shortening narrative and writing, and describing the feelings of listeners.
