  • Background: Sunblock active ingredients can be obtained from natural ingredients such as wheat germ oil which has α-tocopherol content that able to protect from UV rays. Natural sunblock can be optimized by combining with chemicals ingredients such as Octyl Methoxycinnamate, Butyl Methoxybenzoilmetan, and TiO2. Objective: To determine the effect of wheat germ oil (10%, 12.5%, and 15%) on SPF values and to determine the physical characteristics (organoleptic, pH, spreading and viscosity) of TiO2, Octyl Methoxycinnamate, and Butyl Methoxidibenzoilmethan combination. Method: Combination of wheat germ oil lotion with octyl methoxycinnamate, butyl methoxybenzoilmethane, and TiO2. formulated into 3 formulas, with concentrations of wheat seed oil which are FI (10%), FII (12.5%), and FIII (15%). The analysis was done in a descriptive way (organoleptic, type of emulsion, homogeneity) and One-Way ANOVA test (viscosity, spreadability, pH and SPF value in vitro with the spectrophotometer). Analysis is done Results & Conclusions: From the research results it is showed that all formulas have M/A emulsion type, in salmon color, typical wheat germ oil scent and homogenous. From the statistic result, there is no significant difference. For viscosity result in formula I, II, and III the result are 7916,67 cPs, 6500 cPs, and 6833,33 cPs. The spreadability are 0.0563 g / cm, 0.0582 g / cm, and 0.0542 g / cm. The value of SPF are 30,293, 29,051 and 29,521. In the pH test, there is a significant change in which the higher the level of wheat germ oil will create a decreasing of 7,43, 7,28, and 7,12.
