  • Palm oil plants are plantation commodities that are able to improve the economy of the community and the country, so that their scarcity in the domestic market influences economic development and people's welfare. To increase productive oil palm production, quality seeds are needed. High quality seeds to increase the productivity of oil palm plants are seeds from the cross between the parent trees of the Dura variety with pisifera. difficult to obtain seedlings of oil palm seeds that are of the same age in large numbers often disrupt planting plans, Palm oil seeds have difficulty germinating because of the very complex physical condition of the seed, where the seeds have several layers of fruit pads, namely: fruit skin, fruit flesh and soft layer. This research was conducted in Mulyoagung Village, Dau District, Malang Regency with a altitude of 550 meters above sea level and an average temperature of 28 0 C. The research used are sandpaper, basin, gunny sack, plastic, Petri dishes, cotton, test tubes, fans, axes, stationery and documentation tools. As for the materials used are the KNO3 solution, aquades and palm oil seeds of the Dura variety. This research was conducted using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which consists of two factors, namely where the first factor in the treatment of mechanical scarification is (control, sanding, stabbing), the second factor is chemical scarification (KNO3 0%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%). Based on the results of the research conducted there was no interaction between the treatment of mechanical and chemical scarification of all observed parameters. The treatment of mechanical scarification significantly affected the parameters of shoot length, root length, plumula length, normal embryo, and germination, good treatment was sanding and the treatment of chemical scarification significantly affected the parameters of observation of root length, plumula length, normal embryo, and germination, a good treatment was 0.2% KN03 concentration.
