- Language politeness is a way of conveying subtle speech that is used in communication, this is done by noticing the position and every word in communication so as not to offend the speech partner. This can be seen through the words and sentences used by students in the conversation. Based on this, the formulation of the problem in this study are (1) how the form of language politeness in Muhammadiyah University students with lecturers through WhatsApp (WA), how the language politeness function of Muhammadiyah Malang students with lecturers through WhatsApp (WA), and how the meaning language politeness of students of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang with lecturers via WhatsApp (WA). The method used in this study is descriptive analysis method using the Pragmatic approach. The data source of this research is the transcription of WA conversation between students and lecturers by paying attention to the words and sentences contained in the conversation. Through some of the processes found several forms of language politeness, namely the fulfillment of the maxims of Geoffrey Leech's theories of wisdom, appreciation, generosity, compassion, agreement, and conclusions. Based on this from the results of the discussion analysis, it can be concluded that in student conversations with lecturers through WA are found in several utterances based on completeness of sentences, sentence refinement, and self-image. In this case, it was pointed out that most students had met politeness when communicating with lecturers through WA, although there were still less polite students due to social relations between the two, and this was marked by no greetings, no mention of identity, without apology, and without thanks. In this study, it is interesting, in terms of diction used by students when communicating with lecturers.
