- Commodities of apples that have an important role in agriculture at Batu City, but until now this commodities don’t get special attention, how to developing an apple tree. The purpose of this riset is to examine the effect of different height and length of the parent plants growing and stratification of manalagi apple seed germination. The experiment was conducted from January to May 2010 at the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Agricultural Products Processing Technology University of Malang. The research method used was completely randomized design methods nested with the main factor holding altitude growing plants and seed stratification are nested factor. Data were analyzed various factors influenced treatment using the F test level 5% and 1% and Duncan multiple range test at 5% level. data of dormancy, the length hipokotyl, epicotyl length, total germination and germination on used percentage of average. Apple seed viability test results originating from a height of 1000 m have a better growth rate compared with an apple seed from a height of 1380 m. The results showed the difference in altitude where the parent plants growing influence on contents of protein, fat and water. Old stratification effect on protein content, fat and water seeds, but did not significantly affect changes in carbohydrate and ash content of seeds. The value of seed germination percentage increases proportional to the length of storage, germination percentage value has the same value between an apple seed from a height of 1000 m and 1380 m at 75 days of storage that is 20.833%. Keywords: seed, apples, altitude, stratification
