- A good textbook is very important for the teachers and students. It is very helpful for teachers to manage the course focuses on the certain topic. The activities in the textbook will help students to understand the material. However, students in different schools should have different need. Teachers should find out an appropriate textbook for their students. Therefore, in determining a certain English textbook is appropriate or not, we need to evaluate the textbook. In this research, the researcher attempted to analyze the content of the English textbook for the second year of junior high school students published by Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture (revised in 2017) by using the 39 items of textbook evaluation checklist constructed by Jayakaran Mukundan as the instrument. The researcher used qualitative research design. The researcher elaborated each criteria in textbook evaluation checklist is fulfilled by the textbook or not. The result of the research shows that several criteria are not fulfilled by the textbook. Several aspects such as activities, supplementary material, and exercises need further consideration. Evaluating the textbook constantly is suggested. The teachers are suggested to find another additional textbook to develop the activities, tasks, etc.
