  • This research is in the background of the problems in the world of health caused by poor communication between providers and users of health services, one of which is between patients and doctors. The formulation of the problem of this research is how the implementation of interpersonal communication in patient communication activities and general practitioners at the General Hospital of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This study aims to describe the implementation of interpersonal communication in the communication activities of patients and general practitioners at the General Hospital of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This study uses qualitative research methods with descriptive types. Eight subjects consisting of six patients and two general practitioners as subjects in this study were accidentally selected using accidental sampling technique. The data obtained comes from interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis technique uses the interactive model of Miles and Hubberman by testing the validity of data triangulation data sources. The researcher focused on five main aspects of interpersonal communication from Joseph A DeVito, namely openness, empathy, supportive attitude, positive attitude and equality. The results of this study are for each communication activity that takes place between patients and general practitioners, each of which has its own portion of the five aspects. Each of the aspects that do not necessarily determine the emergence and absence of other aspects in each communication activity. As in subjects whose communication activities appear there is openness but the empathy aspect is less visible. There are also those who, in their communication activities, appear open and empathetic, but their attitude of support and positive attitude is less visible.
