  • This research was carried out to determine and describe the grammatical errors in writing descriptive text made by Thai students of University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This research was conducted based on the fact that there were many errors in writing descriptive text made by Thai students of University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This research used a qualitative research design. A qualitative research design was used to determine and describe the errors and the frequency of errors in writing descriptive text made by Thai students of University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The research instrument used in this research was writing test. The writing test used was in form of descriptive writing. Furthermore, the subject of this Thai study was third semester 2016/2017 Academic year at the University of Muhammdiyah Malang. The writer took five Thai students as the sample. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Surface Strategy Taxonomy. The result of the error analysis process showed that students committed error into four types: omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. From the frequency of each error types, omission was the error which most frequently produced by the students. There are 22 errors (46.80%) of total errors. The second place is addition with ten errors (21.27%). After addition, the students also committed errors in form of misformation. There are eight misformation errors (17.02%) made by the students. The lowest frequency of error is seven misordering error (14.89%).To sum up, it showed that the usage of the grammar in writing descriptive paragraph is difficult for students.
