- The metadiscourse analysis study in Indonesian context is hardly ever done in Indonesia. Therefore, this study is done to fulfil this big research gap. This study attempted to examine the use of metadiscourse between two different authors, the English native authors and the Indonesian authors in their research articles (RAs) abstracts. It aimed to identify the difference and similarities between English native authors and the Indonesian authors and to investigate how they used the metadiscourse markers in their texts. The corpus of this study comprised 40 abstracts of RAs--20 for the English native authors and 20 for the Indonesian authors in the field of TESOL and applied linguistic. In order to highlights metadiscourse features, Hyland (2005) metadiscourse model (i.e., interactive and interactional) had been employed as this study analytical framework. The corpora analysis was applied in this study as the suitable research method. Then, quantitative and qualitative research design were applied. This study found that the English native authors’ abstracts had higher number in the use the two metadiscourse. Interactional metadiscourse had higher number then interactive one in both the English native and the Indonesian authors. Moreover, the statistical analysis found that there was no significant difference in the use both interactive and interactional metadiscourse in the English native and the Indonesian authors’ abstracts. In how they use the metadiscourse markers, they had mostly- used different markers. Furthermore, this study revealed that the different length of abstracts and the authors’ culture background affected the different marker use in the abstracts.
