  • This thesis examines the foreign policy of Albania in accepting of Syrian refugees in 2015. The refugee crisis worsened when several countries decided to close their countries from Syrian refugees. So that causes the European Union to look for other alternative routes for refugees. This research applies foreign policy in the perspective of constructivism to outline the role identity of Albania as an EU candidate country. Based on the foreign policy framework in the perspective of constructivism, role identity is formed from the position of a state in international relations and the significant other or recognition from other countries. The position of Albania is formed by granting the status of candidates state by the European Commission and recognized by its 28 member states. The identity then encourages Albania to open its state to Syrian refugees. Albania cooperated with international organizations such as OSCE and the European Union to receive the Syrian refugees. In addition Albania also attended a migration along the Balkan route summit and Belgrade declaration. These efforts are motivated by the interests of Albania to become a member of the European Union.
