- This research was focused on teaching writing skill using technique by the English teacher at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. Therefore, it had three purposes, they were: (1) to know the technique applied by the teacher in teaching writing skill to the first year students at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Malang; (2) to know how the English teacher implements teaching technique; and (3) to know the problems faced by the English teacher in teachingwriting skill to the first year students at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. The method used in this research was qualitative research design, because this research focused on kinds of teaching techniques, how the teacher implemented the technique, and identifying the problems faced by the teacher in teaching writing skill. Meanwhile, for the instrument, the researcher used observation and interview as the tools to collect the data. The findings showed that the technique used by the teacher in teaching writing skill are using controlled writing and teaching organization. The way of teacher applied the techniques in teaching writing skill can be elaborated into several steps: (1) The teacher points 4 until 5 students for each groups, (2) the teacher gave a paper and asked to write down several sentences in to Indonesian language and submitted, (3) the teacher gave back the papers randomly to other groups and gave limited time to change those Indonesian sentences into English using present or present continuous tenses.
