  • Swearing expression is known as the word that has a power which can be used as a weapon in a conversation (Hughes, 2006). By investigating swearing, the expression used by people and its purpose will be known. The main purpose of using swearing is to show emotional feelings, such as: fear, frustration, anger, pain, etc. The users of swearing expressions are commonly teenagers and adults which appears both in reality life and in film. In film, the use of swearing expressions frequently appear in the gangster film, especially “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” film. Since the researcher identifies the frequent use of swearing expressions in the “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” film, this research is aimed to investigate the swearing expressions, types of swearing expressions, and the most dominant type of swearing expressions used by two main characters (Darius Kincaid and Michael Bryce) in “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” film. The design of this research employed qualitative research. Furthermore, the research subjects were involving two main characters (Darius Kincaid and Michael Bryce) of “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” film. The data collection was conducted during 3 weeks from 1st to 21st of September 2018. The instrument in this research was using document in the form of transcribed data of the dialogues’ screen capture containing swearing expressions used by two main characters (Darius Kincaid and Michael Bryce) “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” film. In conclusion, the finding showed that swearing expressions used by two main characters (Darius Kincaid and Michael Bryce) of “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” film identified 90 swearing expressions. The swearing expressions are classified into descriptive swearing 18 times, abusive swearing 24 times, idiomatic swearing 17 times, emphatic swearing 6 times, and cathartic swearing 25 times. The most dominant type of swearing expression is performed in the cathartic swearing as the main characters of this film got many accidents and bad things, such as: get shot, fall down and feel disappointed with their failure in doing missions.
