  • This study aims to determine the effect of variations in electric current on tensile strength in ASTM A36 steel by the SMAW welding method. SMAW welding is carried out on ASTM A36 steel with varying currents from currents 50A, 60A, 70A, 80A and then tensile tests on welded specimens. The deriving result shows that there is an increasing in the value of tensile strength from variations of electric current 50A, 60A, 70A, but at variations of current 80A, the tensile strength values decrease due to cracks that occur in the specimens which cause a decrease due to heat cracks and a very effective current to get the highest tensile strength in ASTM A36 within the SMAW welding method is 70A.
